Original Artist's Comment: " Japanese Four Seasons Series - Fall

I'm working on a series of four painting of classical Japanese figures in scenes that influence the staging of that season. In this one the figure is wearing a brown kimono stripped with red. Her undergarment is stark red with a gold dot pattern and her obi is gold. I hope you can see that ^_^ I think I'm describing to you what you can see... Anyway, to me fall means fall colors and rain. Even though we're not getting as much rain this fall as I would like, it means rain. The composition for this painting was inspired by a woodblock print of two woman watching ships come into a harbor. I singled it down to one ship, one woman, and added rain.

I'm really happy with the interior background. It took me a while to get the floor to a point where I could feel satisfied with it. It was supposed to be tatami mats, but I decided that perspective is definatly not one of my strong points, so I gave up. I think it looks nice. The photograph isn't fantastic and definatly has hints of magenta in it but much less that here.

I actually finished this painting in the course of four days work, I watched a lot of TV this weekend. I have a second canvas and am now working on spring...summer's composition is eluding me."
